Roseburg Forest Products
Roseburg Forest Products owns thousands of acres in the Siuslaw & Smith River Area southwest of Eugene. They offer controlled free public access to much of their land for recreational purposes subject to certain restrictions, particularly during fire season. For more information, go to:
The State of Oregon determines when fire season begins and ends. There are four Industrial Fire Precaution Levels (IFPL) that govern activities on state and private timberland. IFPL I is the lowest level and IFPL IV mandates a complete shutdown of activity. A zone map showing the current IFPL can be found here. The area of interest is zone WT-1.
Gated Roseburg properties
Here are the fire season rules for gated roads that access Roseburg properties:
IFPL Level I: Closed to all forms of motorized vehicular access (including electric bicycles). Open to walk-in access.
IPFL Level II: All public access prohibited.
Public roads that go through Roseburg properties
The Roseburg website states: "Roseburg’s ownership is intermixed with other landowners, particularly the Bureau of Land Management, where it is impractical to prevent the public from accessing our timberlands due to public roads going through them. In these situations, the public is allowed to drive through our timberlands and access our timberlands off these public roads. However, the public is not allowed to leave the public road and access our timberlands when IFPL is at Level II or greater."
