Big Elk Campground is conveniently located about half-way between Corvallis to the Coast. Three routes are presented below.
Overview of routes from Corvallis to Big Elk
Each of these three routes climbs over the north shoulder of Marys Peak. They all converge one mile west of Woods Creek Trailhead where Woods Creek Road meets Tum Tum Road. A one mile segment of this shared route is closed to bicycles between October 16 and May 15. Detour options are presented.
This is the route of the C2C Trail.
30 miles; +2434'; 68% unpaved
This is similar to the Old Peak Road route, but with a little less mileage and climbing. The downside is that you have to ride on Highway 20 for almost 2 miles.
28.7 miles; +2200'; 58% unpaved
This route uses a historic wagon road on the west side of Corvallis. It is the longest route.
